What is 'Energy Performance Certified'?

To be Energy Performance Certified a home must meet strict energy efficiency guidelines verified by an independent third-party inspection.

Energy Performance Certified homes use less overall energy, have lower utility bills, and help protect the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Each home recieves a rating on the Home Energy Rating Scale (HERS) to help compare it to other residences.

What is the HERS scale?

The HERS index is a scoring system established by the Residential Energy Services Network that rates the energy efficiency of a home. A home built to the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code has a HERS index of 100, while a home that uses zero energy has a HERS index of 0.

The lower the score, the more energy efficient the home is. Each 1-point decrease in the rating corresponds to a 1% reduction in energy consumption.

Inverness Homes typically range from 60 - 70.

What are the HERS building requirements?

Building homes to meet the 2006 Energy Code (a HERS score of 100 or less) is not a requirement. All builders in the tri-state area are not building to that standard.

Our homes, with a typical index of 60 - 70, are up to 60% more efficient than a resale home.

Using Energy Star rated products and constantly improving green building techniques, Inverness Homes holds ourselves to a higher standard.

What is the certification process?

Each Inverness Home receives a third-party unafflilated inspection from an energy contractor and is assigned a HERS rating specific to that home. This includes a Home Energy Rating Certificate and Home Energy Report unique to each residence.

What is the Energy Performance advantage?
